WhatsApp said that smartphones using version 2.3.7 or older than this version and iPhone iOS 8 or older than this version, these kinds of devices are affected by their new update. They come with this new update because of the legacy of the operating systems. The main reason is the operating systems where WhatsApp support, they are dropping support for are legacy operating systems. Because of this, the old operating system will no longer be updated or installed on new devices.
Naturally, most of the users can be able to update their operating systems to use the messaging service of WhatsApp.
There are some devices like iPhone 4s, which only support iOS 7, these will affect by the update. Windows operating phones version under 8.1 will unable to be compatible with this app because of the updating reason and the security reason as well.
Any WhatsApp users affected by the update, they could theoretically update their OS to continue using this app. The older models phone or many backdated devices will either face difficulty in running newer operating systems or will not allow them to be installed.
CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood said that “WhatsApp has no option to ensure their service remains secure. However, it faces the difficult side-effect that the app will no longer compatible with older smartphones.”
